Getting ready to launch a brand new Google Ads campaign, but feeling a little lost? Before you get down to business, there are 3 things you need to do first.
1. Make sure people are searching for you online
There’s absolutely no reason to start a Google Ads campaign if people aren’t searching for what you have to offer. Even if people are searching for your product or service, they may not be searching for it the way you think.
Start with Google’s Keyword Suggestion Tool. Type in keywords that you think your target audience may be using to find you online and Google will provide you with alternate keyword phrases to consider.
2. How much advertising can you afford?
Once you’ve established that there are popular searches for your products or services, you have to determine how much money you’re willing to spend on an Ads campaign.
There’s a little bit of math involved. You’ll have to find your maximum cost per click (CPC) and compare it to your estimated keyword cost per click. You may have to make a guess or calculate those amounts based on keyword tracking. Then, you can use the following equation to find out what you can afford:
Max CPC = (profit per customer) x (1 – profit margin) x (website conversion rate)
